Rare Protocol Weekly Update: Nov 3
Curation Staking and the importance of reputation verification
Among rewiring curation and discovery in web3, Rare Protocol also offers a revolutionary new way to build and verify one’s reputation onchain. Why is this important? With the rise of AI and bots, having a decentralized and platform agnostic way to build and verify your reputation will be increasingly important.
And these are not future issues, they are happening right now. Just this week, Journalist Tom Matsuda shared a post on LinkedIn warning his connections that InsideBitcoins has been impersonating him by posting articles and crediting him as the author. More widely reported was the story of an author discovering AI written books under her name being sold on Amazon.
As it stands, most of us turn to a variety of sources to check one’s reputation - work history on LinkedIn, follower counts on Twitter, blue checkmarks on Instagram, or Kudos on Strava to name a few. What we often fail to take into account is that these resources only capture a snapshot of one’s reputation - say, their willingness to create viral content, or their official employment history.
While Curation Staking can be less expensive than, say, purchasing an artwork from an artist you want to support, it is a signal with more gravity. It allows users to say, “Hey, I support you as a person, and here is some RARE to back that up.” As reputation verification becomes increasingly important, Rare Protocol offers an onchain solution through peer-to-peer support signals.

The Eternal Trap of Affluence by rust
Rust conjures cryptoart and stories in gifs. Their piece “The Eternal Trap” is captioned, “"Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction." - Erich Fromm”. The artwork portrays a sense of cold electricity, cutting to the core of the dark side of affluence.

DeltaSauce is an AI wordsmith, Digital Artist, and Curator of Nostalgia. They’ve captioned the above piece, “A memory of the snow, beginning its descent on a lonely gas station. A feeling of loneliness, as the cold consumes.” While the piece almost feels playful on first glance, together the video and accompanying text incite a sense of cold isolation - haunting yet enchanting.
